Birmingham HMV Insitute - September 17th 2011 (Sex, Drugs and Vaudeville tour)- Audience Blog

hey,

i'm going to write my own tour blog. but i just saw this blog someone wrote about the Birmingham show on the UK September tour by a lovely lady called Steph Wisson

here it is. just HAD to share it <3

"Being such a good friend, I convinced my flu ridden hung over friend to join me in attending a gig in Birmingham, at which I could quite happily blow the remanents of my overdraft on.

The hook for her being that Bitter Ruin were supporting.

(We had both fallen in love, seeing them support the beautiful Amanda Palmer. And my friend gained a massive crush on Georgia. When we met them after the show, she couldn't stop giggling

Annnnnyway.

We got ready, both very excited.

And I played her some Joe Black songs, because by some madness she hadn't heard them. :(

Her reply 'I think this dude would be the only person bar us, that isn't scared of how dark your humour is.. this is gunna be an epic night.'

On our way there, I got wolf whistled at by two middle aged men ¬¬ Who nudged each other and went ‘I’d tap that’

My wonderful friend being such an awesome girl, stopped me and wrapped her leg round my waist and growled at them ‘Fuck off, she’s mine.’ And licked my face. They looked terrified and I tried so hard not to laugh.

As is our way, we arrived late :/ and headed straight for the booze. I chose wine which I will never learn my lesson about. Because I can drink anyone under the table, but when it comes to wine…… this happens http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfDLDB4g0F4

Being of mostly the same musical taste, on seeing Mister Meredith we both crumbled into joyful squeeking. Attempting to clap together, since we both had one hand full.

If he doesn’t get a cd soon our hearts shall cry!

Bitter Ruin had everyone, once again in absolute awe, as they sung songs of love that people so rarely hit on. It’s like they find the words we all struggle to say.

I was so glad that they played ‘Beware’ as it really hit a nerve when I first heard it, in a place deep underneath the façade I show everyone pretending I don’t still hurt.

They have to get signed, if they don’t there is absolutely no justice in the world. It’s true talent, it’s so rare these days, but still we see idiots with nothing to show for,  shoot to fame and glory.

We went for a makeup check in the intermission and I heard the word ‘Chinchilla’ from the other end of the toilets, and thought ‘that HAS to be Steve.’

I walk down to see her talking to the runner, I asked her what she said and it was;

‘These hand dryers are like having a Chinchilla breathing on your hands.’

This is why I married her… :’)

Joe Black put on the greatest show I have ever seen. He immediately endeared himself to the whole crowd with a smile and showed great talent on everything he played.

A true showman. That I cannot wait to see again. I had this stupid grin on my face through the whole set and LOVED the new song that is out soon, very excited to hear the rest of the album! :D

I got to hold his ukulele while he partially stripped, I felt like Spongebob with the Magic Conch.

The ukulele would have come in handy later on, when people beside us started talking through his songs… I would have used it to deck them.

When we were told it was the last song, it was like the curtain had fallen, and you were back in the real world, where everyone judges you and you get shouted at on the street for not being like them. I didn't want to leave, though I thought handcuffing myself to the railings would do no good as I would just be alone in an attic.

Merchhhhhhhhh tableeeeeeeeeeee! I ran as quickly as my ‘stand still and look good, run and look like a pissed hedgehog’ shoes would let me. And gazed longingly at all of the beautiful merchandise.

While they all gave me a ‘I think she may be having a fit’ look.

I got some free stickers, from remembering to say ‘I’m very concerned.’ I practised it in the mirror a few days before to make sure I could do it well :P and my dad caught me… He honestly looked genuinely terrified.

I FINALLY got the ‘Sex Drugs and Vaudeville’ cd

And got it signed ^_^ I held on VERY tight to it all the way home incase a mad mime should jump out of a bush and steal it miming fast running on the spot. It is now on my bedroom shelf next to my Amanda Palmer signed Evelyn and Evelyn playing card…. It is a very sexy shelf indeed.

I bought some badges and a tote bag which I now use, even when I go out and have nothing to carry. :’) And a pocket mirror, so I can scare myself on the go.

My friend said I wimped out. But that was not the case, I had just been up to talk to him so many times that I felt it was at the point that he would be thinking, Oh, Sod…. Off.

So she asked if I could have a picture taken. Which even though it came out blurry because it was on an iPhone, is still totally rad.

I sang and danced all the way home, scaring people on the train and elating my house mates, who hadn’t seen me as happy, ever.

I had a dream that night that I could relive the show ever night and was so bummed out when I woke up.

Talk about music changing your life J These guys should be on the top things to do before you die list…. Because you will never experience what it is truly like to be alive until you do"
