TWO DAYS LATER.
well. i made it to australia
as i write this i'm sat in a glorious emporium dedicated to the kitsch, the camp, the vintage, the burlesque and the cabaret… the house of burlesque in melbourne
tucked in an alley way just off what seems to be one of the most artistic and vibrant streets i've ever seen, its a total gem.
i'm staying with minsky malone while i'm here. she lives here. it's a burlesque shop, dance school and hen party celebration central….
it's beautiful. couldn't have wished for a more perfect setting to rest my weary head.
i arrived in melbourne yesterday morning (today is november 20th) and i've just had a few hours sleep after surviving till around 8pm on the 19th
woke up bright and awake at 1am this morning, though managed to drift off a couple of times and now its 6:45am and i feel more alert and awake than i have since i left!
i know it will get to around 7ish this evening and i'll fall asleep on a tram or something.. fucking typical.
but HOPEFULLY monday i will feel 100% and be ready to tackle the opening of the first show… which also happens to be press night!
show opens on tuesday at the butterfly club…
which yesterday i popped into so i could see it
and DAYYYNMMM GURRRL it's wonderful. housed in a victorian 3 storey house, its the perfect cabaret seating
a small theatre attached to it that fits around 50 people, with fantastic acoustics.
had a tinkle on the piano. POIFECT.
i discovered the place from hearing melbourne based singer songwriter tom dickens talking about it (also of cabaret duo the jane austen argument)
and east end cabaret from london did a show there recently which jogged my otherwise groggy memory.
it's a total gem. so excited to open the show there.
i have a feeling i'm the only person currently awake in the entire city, which is deterring me from going out for an early morning stroll
perhaps all i'll come across are the walk of shame-ers from saturday night… the stragglers.. and the people who are still off their arse looking for that continued party experience.
it also seems australian drunks are just the same as british ones. screaming outside your window at 2am still seems to be some kind of national sport. though with a different accent.
maybe i should get showered and tidy up a bit to surprise minsky (who is still sleeping)
though of course i have absolutely no idea where anything goes, the thought is still there.
PAH. must last till late this evening. doing a spot on local gay and lesbian radio 'joy f.m' to plug the butterfly club shows (22nd till 27th november every night, people! please spread the word :))
signing off.
over and out lovers and love-ettes.
